Pro Tools for Leopard: Ultimate Reason to Upgrade to 10.5?

August 6, 2008 – 12:39 pm by Jonathan Grand

Pro Tools 7.4.2

As you might know by now Pro Tools 7.4.2 is out, supporting Mac OS X 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 .
But if you don’t know, and if you purchased 7.4 and Leopard, you can run and download it. It has been running pretty stable, but then again, it wasn’t extensively tested.

Even though it seems to run fine, I still wonder if life would be better with no Leopard update at all. I think I still miss the old stability and efficiency of Tiger. Even after all the combo updates, 10.5.4 still feels slow to me, and it still has instability issues with itself and some software, in a machine where RAM is definitely not an issue.

Moozek The Revenge

Good news to all the readers left!

Moozek, the pro audio blog with a twist, is returning after 3 months of absence.
Slowly at first, I’ll try to have some articles everyday/week, with more rants, tips, tutorials, downloads, music industry celebrities and studio watch (everyone needs something and someone to look up to - specially in this industry, right?). After some suggestions, the possibility of hiring more writers/editors will not be left out in a near future.

The Most Underrated Amp Modeling Plug-In?

February 21, 2008 – 6:26 pm by Jonathan Grand

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3: John 5, Korn, NIN, deftones, Metallica

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3.  John 5, Munky, Trent Reznor, Stephen Carpenter and Kirk Hammett seem to agree…

Following our previous showdown review of Waves GTR 3 vs Amplitube 2, in our eternal pursuit for easy guitar tones relying on the latest technologies of amp modeling, Native Instruments brought our attention to the version 3 of Guitar Rig, which we didn’t review at the time. And why are they so proud of it? Well, this is not like a mere v1 to 2 update. It’s more like a v2 turned into a V8.  Check it out.

Lok And Load Plug-in Manager

We’re happy to (finally!) announce a new unique plug-in manager for Pro Tools (and also other DAWs that use RTAS, VST or DX) that will change the way we all work (and wait) for plug-ins to load.

Directly from New Zealand, in exclusive announcement to Moozek.com, we spoke to Ian Rich, the creator of Lok and Load, to allow us to preview the software. We will inform all readers when we have a complete review of the program, which is Windows XP only (for now).  Moozek.com thanks Ian for this amazing concept: we can speak for most professionals when we say we’ve really been wishing for this kind of product. “The Loudness War”: Oh Please…

February 3, 2008 – 12:06 am by Jonathan Grand

Loudness War

Everyone in the audio industry by now should have seen the video going around to raise “awareness” for the infamous Loudness War and deterioration of the audio quality during the mastering process nowadays…  No? Well, click and watch…

It would be so Google-friendly for us to just post the video, give them an amen, and join the masses of industry professionals that think audio quality is (once again) being threatened by ignorance. Yes, people are ignorant in this world, and yes, we see what they’re trying to say. Hey, we’re audiophiles too.

But no, Moozek.com is not getting in the “Loudness War” choo choo train of coolness. Why, you might ask? Because there’s always two sides to every story. And this one is getting too one-sided for our taste. If you see the video, you’ll understand. We’re giving you the other side of the story - the reason why music is not dying just because people want it loud without touching the Volume knob. The Loudness War is a problem, but not a catastrophe:

Apple MacBook Air: Solid State Drives taking over computer audio?

January 15, 2008 – 9:03 pm by Jonathan Grand

Apple MacBook Air

Today at Macworld 2008, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, introduced what is the first introduction of a high-capacity Solid State Drive-capable Mac computer product, the MacBook Air. This may be the beginning of the end of a long wait for something better than the “slow” current hard drives with moving parts.

Solid State hard drives are made up of solid state components (just like RAM memory and USB thumb drives) to store information - giving manufacturers practically infinite possibilities to look up, read and write information at much faster speeds. They also are a lot less prone to crashes and, theoretically, data loss, since one of the main problems of current hard drives are the mechanical spinning platters. Sounds perfect for multi-track audio, right?
