iZotope Announces iDrum for iPhone and iPod Touch

August 13, 2008 – 4:56 am by Jonathan Grand

Worthless software for overpriced hype device, or a little musical revolution in disguise?

iZotope iDrum for iPhone and iPod Touch (so many i’s) allows the sketching of beats on an everyday portable device, which could prove useful for songwriting. The application makes beat-making available to everyone with its simple interface.

“The iDrum application takes advantage of unique features of the iPhone platform — users can tap virtual pads to create rhythms, shake the handset to clear patterns, and use slide and flick gestures to navigate the application’s interface. Immersive, colorful visuals show the relationship between different sounds in the beat, allowing users to create new rhythms by creating visual patterns. Using a special companion application, beats can even be turned into ringtones for iPhone.” More…

Musicians and studio professionals need to show off a wallpaper they can be proud of, whether they’re running PC or Mac, and still get a warm fuzzy feeling out of it. The Indie Age of Music

Indie Age Of Music ProRec

What could be in store for the Music Industry?

Opinion for ProRec.com. Read the full article.

Like a fast growing teenager from a broken home, the music industry has been tortured by painful and unexpected changes, finally learning how to survive on its own. Today, major labels are the melancholic parents in denial, missing the old days of sense of ownership. They are still in control, suffocating the market transformations as much as they can. But they are losing the game, and they know it: capitalism in the hands of the little ones is a doomsday device against the corporations – More…

Before The Music Dies

Before The Music Dies

This is not new, but it’s important to talk about and make sure everyone watches it. It’s about the narrowing fine line between music as art and as product.

Continuing the point I tried to make with The Most Discussed Article on Moozek Yet, back in February, I believe this is something a lot more important to us as music professionals, than CDs mastered at -5 dB with 6% of sample clipping. Amen? Read on…(trailer included) More…

Google vs Piracy

From the company we can never really tell if it’s evil and unscrupulous, or just evil and cool, comes a quest to kick those pirates ass, in the country where 99% (real data) of all music comes from illegal sources – China. And Chinese are one of the most avid music consumers in the world. But how does Google plan to do that? According to Jacqui Cheng at Ars Technica: More…

Pro Tools for Leopard: Ultimate Reason to Upgrade to 10.5?

August 6, 2008 – 12:39 pm by Jonathan Grand

Pro Tools 7.4.2

As you might know by now Pro Tools 7.4.2 is out, supporting Mac OS X 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 .
But if you don’t know, and if you purchased 7.4 and Leopard, you can run and download it. It has been running pretty stable, but then again, it wasn’t extensively tested.

Even though it seems to run fine, I still wonder if life would be better with no Leopard update at all. I think I still miss the old stability and efficiency of Tiger. Even after all the combo updates, 10.5.4 still feels slow to me, and it still has instability issues with itself and some software, in a machine where RAM is definitely not an issue.
