Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3: John 5, Korn, NIN, deftones, Metallica

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3.  John 5, Munky, Trent Reznor, Stephen Carpenter and Kirk Hammett seem to agree…

Following our previous showdown review of Waves GTR 3 vs Amplitube 2, in our eternal pursuit for easy guitar tones relying on the latest technologies of amp modeling, Native Instruments brought our attention to the version 3 of Guitar Rig, which we didn’t review at the time. And why are they so proud of it? Well, this is not like a mere v1 to 2 update. It’s more like a v2 turned into a V8.  Check it out.

  2. Revalver mkII/mkIII blows the doors off Amplitube 2 for heavy tones by light years, IMO.

Maybe give it run though if you haven’t yet. I haven’t really used GTR or GR3, other than the demos of older versions years ago, to comment on them. But damn, Revalver is very impressive. After using Amplitube 2 since it came out, it doesn’t get touched anymore.

To me it sounds like the closest thing to an actual distorted amp. Metal Amp Room is pretty convincing too.
