Digidesign Previews Upcoming Transfuser VI

Digidesign today unveiled theTransfuser™ Preview (http://www2.digidesign.com/transfuserpreview/index.cfm?ref=transfuserpreview), a free three-month prerelease version of Transfuser, a new upcoming RTAS® virtual instrument plug-in for Pro Tools® ( http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=28&langid=100&) software. Transfuser is a real-time loop, phrase, and groove creation virtual instrument designed for quickly and easily creating, manipulating, and performing loop- and rhythm-based music on the fly within Pro Tools. It also offers users a quick and easy way to modify existing loop libraries to breathe new life into their creations.

EastWest PLAY now RTAS® Compatible

In response to user feedback EASTWEST announces RTAS® support for Mac and PC versions of all PLAY products. Current PLAY-powered collections can be upgraded to include RTAS support through a free update posted on the company’s website (http://www.soundsonline.com). The software updates (PLAY v1.0.056) are available for both Mac and PC platforms in both standalone and plug-in versions, with PC updates being offered for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

Following our previous showdown review of Waves GTR 3 vs Amplitube 2, in our eternal pursuit for easy guitar tones relying on the latest technologies of amp modeling, Native Instruments brought our attention to the version 3 of Guitar Rig, which we didn’t review at the time. You don’t have to buy the overpriced Pro Tools custom keyboards (or keyboards for any other application for that matter), or settle for the stickers. Now, KB Covers and zCover are selling keyboard covers in latex with application shortcut maps printed on them. They work on Apple keyboards (old and new) and Apple laptops too!

“The Loudness War”: Oh Please…

Everyone in the audio industry by now should have seen the video going around to raise “awareness” for the infamous Loudness War and deterioration of the audio quality during the mastering process nowadays…  No? Well, click and watch…

It would be so Google-friendly for us to just post the video, give them an amen, and join the masses of industry professionals that think audio quality is (once again) being threatened by ignorance (oh noooo!). Yes, people are ignorant in this world, and yes, we see what they’re trying to say. Hey, we’re audiophiles too.

Apple MacBook Air: Solid State Drives taking over computer audio?

Today at Macworld 2008, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, introduced what is the first introduction of a high-capacity Solid State Drive-capable Mac computer product, the MacBook Air. This may be the beginning of the end of a long wait for something better than the “slow” current hard drives with moving parts.

Solid State hard drives are made up of solid state components (just like RAM memory and USB thumb drives) to store information - giving manufacturers practically infinite possibilities to look up, read and write information at much faster speeds. They also are a lot less prone to crashes and, theoretically, data loss, since one of the main problems of current hard drives are the mechanical spinning platters. Sounds perfect for multi-track audio, right?

The latest Alter Bridge album, Blackbird, was mixed in Nashville on a pair of HS80M. The fresh new 7.4cs2 update comes with a huge pile of bug fixes and feature enhancements, so if you’re a 7.4 owner, check it out! This will probably sort out some little instability issues I noticed with cs1.  To everyone who complained about not having track color saturation control since 7.3, it’s back with this update!
